Message from 2023-2024 President, Stephen Schreiber

It is with great honor that I assume the role of President of the National Architecture Accrediting Board (NAAB) for the 2023-2024 term, alongside a distinguished volunteer board of directors, and with the support of our highly dedicated and skilled staff.

In the upcoming year, NAAB is poised to reintroduce in-person visits for accreditation and international certification. We are committed to maximizing critical investments in accreditation management systems, focusing on innovation, transparency, cost-effectiveness, and responsiveness.

Our emphasis at NAAB will be on fostering collaborative relationships with programs, enhancing communication, and creating fresh opportunities for engagement with NAAB and peer programs to share best practices. We aim to expand our educational offerings through increased workshops, training sessions, and conferences.

The challenges facing our academy and profession are significant, including systemic racism, social inequities, public health crises, climate change, political divides, globalization, the value of higher education, and the impact of artificial intelligence. NAAB, working in collaboration with ACSA, AIA, AIAS, NCARB, and NOMA, is dedicated to addressing these emerging concerns as the field of architecture continues to evolve.

Our current opportunities to enhance quality assessment in architecture education are exceptional, thanks to the transformative work of our predecessors. We express our gratitude for their contributions. The steadfast commitment of our academic and professional communities to the ongoing success of our mission is a source of pride for NAAB.

We eagerly anticipate the work ahead and look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders in advancing the field of architecture.

Stephen Schreiber, FAIA, NCARB, DPACSA
2023–2024 NAAB President
