NAAB Response to COVID-19

The NAAB is closely monitoring the threat of the COVID-19 virus and the potential implications on architecture programs. The NAAB supports actions being taken to ensure the health, safety, and security of architecture students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders. We recognize that:

  • Institutions are enacting action plans to keep their students, faculty, and staff safe.
  • Programs are instituting alternate methods for program delivery.

Programs should follow their institution’s directives and make decisions that are best for them. Any alternate program delivery methods enacted for this special circumstance will not require substantive change permissions or negatively impact accreditation or NAAB International Certification requirements. It is the prerogative of each program to provide accommodations for its students in extenuating circumstances, and the NAAB will support these accommodations as directed by their institutions.

To keep our programs and volunteers safe, the NAAB is delaying all 2020 accreditation spring site visits until the fall, contingent on the developments in the COVID-19 situation. The NAAB has completed all 2020 spring site visits for NAAB International Certification. We will continue to communicate the updates to programs.

Training for team pool members for 2021 visits to schools using the 2014 Conditions and the 2015 Procedures will continue to be conducted via webinars. At this time, training for team pool members for 2021 visits to schools using the 2020 Conditions and Procedures will initially be conducted via webinars and in-person training is planned for early fall 2020, pending developments in COVID-19 situation.

Information sessions on the new 2020 Conditions and Procedures planned for the ACSA Annual meeting are being rescheduled and will be offered virtually. NAAB’s original plans for webinars later this spring on the new 2020 Conditions and Procedures are moving forward and dates will be announced soon.

The NAAB will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates. Please feel free to reach out to our team with any questions at info@naab.org
