Writing the Architecture Program Report (APR)
The APR provides insight into the program, as well as its institutional context and resources; it forms the basis for the visiting team to prepare for the site visit and evaluate evidence during the visit; and it helps the team offer informed observations at the end of the visit. Because of its central role in accreditation, the NAAB encourages the program to write the APR in a collaborative manner that involves the school's faculty, students, and other appropriate members of the academic, practitioner, and regulatory community. In particular, the NAAB encourages AIAS participation in the preparation of the APR. The sections pertaining to the program's mission, strategic plan, response to the NAAB Perspectives, and self-assessment are especially suited to broad-based participation.
A report addressing each of the four subsections described in the previous chapter titled "Conditions and Reporting Requirements" is due in the NAAB office no later than September 7 of the year prior to the visit; a late fee is assessed for submissions received after that date. Failure to submit an APR may result in revocation of the program's accredited status.
The NAAB conducts a workshop on APR preparation at the ACSA's annual meeting. Programs may also visit the NAAB office to review sample APRs and receive guidance tailored to their particular circumstance.
